Happiness is Quantifiable

Are you happy? Did you know that 50% of your happiness is genetically determined? Or, that 10% of your happiness is circumstantial (income, social status and where you live). That 40% of your happiness is unaccountable? This is a good thing because it means that it falls into the jurisdiction of intentional behavior over which you have more control.

Hormones and neurotransmitters are critical to happiness. They make us heavy or light, happy or sad. We have several happy neurotransmitters. They are serotonin, norepinephrine, GABA, acetylcholine, oxytocin, and dopamine. They all do something different. Oxytocin is about bonding and sex, fear and love. When you look someone in the eyes, touch or are touched oxytocin is released. Meditation releases GABA which is relaxing. Transcendental meditators spend a lot of time in alpha mode. Dopamine is about anticipation and is released when we exercise, especially in novel ways. Aerobic exercise is one of the best releasers of dopamine. Making exercise fun releases even more dopamine. If soccer isn’t fun to you, don’t play soccer. If hitting hard balls in a batting cage is fun for you, do that. Juggling fun? Go ahead. That goes for gymnastics, hopscotch, hockey, hiking, biking, boating, bowling, ping-pong, paintball, swimming, tennis, trampoline, skateboarding—skateboarding in a gorilla costume is pretty novel, no? Whatever you do just have fun with it and you will release a lot more. Approached in a fun manor more happiness will be your reward.  A fast way to get all of the aforementioned neurotransmitters going is via Oxytocin Xxcelerator with the added cofactors of testosterone and endorphins.
